Today, I sent an email to the entire staff discussing how we don’t have school on Monday and how we were going to manage everything we have going on (poor planning on my part, but that’s a story for another day). After proofreading it, I hit send.

Shortly after, I received several responses kindly reminding me that we do, in fact, have school on Monday (shoutout to those who actually read the emails!). This prompted me to send a follow-up email with an apology.

Later, I scheduled text messages to go out throughout the week, reminding parents of our upcoming activities — only to accidentally send one immediately, instead of scheduling it properly. The title? “School Tomorrow!”

All of this happened before first period was even over.

As I sit here eating my lunch, I’m reminded of the stress our people are under, especially during the holiday season. As leaders, we have to remember that “everyone is doing the best they know how” — and sometimes, they make mistakes. (Sanfelippo, 2022)

Show a little grace. Remind yourself (and others) that none of us have it all together. Life is hard, and we’re all doing our best.

Today I am embracing the vulnerability to show that perfection isn’t the goal — progress is.
